The groundwater that feeds the lagoon is hypersaline due to its passage through strata rich in sodium chloride, which dissolves and is incorporated into the water.<\/p>\n The most surprising thing is that the difference in density between hypersaline waters, denser and located at the bottom, and fresh waters, less dense and in the surface layers, means that they never mix, a phenomenon known as \u201cmeromixis\u201d.<\/strong><\/p>\n The vegetation and flora of the lagoon are equally impressive. Here grows white water lily (Nymphaea alba)<\/strong>, an aquatic plant that roots in shallow waters and, during flowering, its beautiful white flowers float on the surface, making this lagoon the only place in the province where it is found. In addition, you can observe other species of aquatic plants such as Potamogeton sp. and the algae Chara sp. In the shallow areas of the banks, a dense reed bed serves as a refuge for birds and fish.<\/p>\n Laguna del Tobar is a paradise for fauna, in particular, for waterfowl. Among the notable species are the mallard<\/strong> (Anas platyrhynchos), the common pochard (Aythya ferina), the common coot (Fulica atra), the gadwall (Mareca strepera) and the common stilt<\/strong> (Himantopus himantopus).<\/p>\n Laguna del Tobar is a living testimony of the richness of nature and the complexity of its processes.
