This wetland with exceptional characteristics is an integral part of the \u201cSerran\u00eda de Cuenca\u201d Special Conservation Area and is part of the Natura 2000 Network.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>An Oasis in the Cuenca Mountains<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Located in the J\u00facar River basin, in the heart of the Serran\u00eda de Cuenca, Laguna del Marquesado is a karst-type wetland, formed from the damming of the Arroyo del Soto. Its uniqueness lies in its unique morphology, with a maximum depth of 5.45 meters and fresh waters of the carbonate-calcium-magnesium type. Is about<strong> one of the few examples in Western Europe of a karst wetland formed by a travertine barrier<\/strong> or tuffaceous, a geological process similar to that of other notable natural parks, such as the Lagunas de Ruidera and the Laguna de Taravilla in the Alto Tajo Natural Park.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Unique Fauna and Flora<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>The Marquesado Lagoon is a refuge for a varied fauna and flora that adapts to the conditions of the swamp environment, both seasonally and permanently. Among the birds that live on the banks of the lagoon and the Soto stream are species such as the<strong> Woodcock, Cascade Sandpiper and Dipper<\/strong>. Despite its small size and relative depth, the lagoon is home to some waterfowl, such as the little grebe, mallard, moorhen and common coot. The route, approximately<strong> 2 hours long<\/strong> and 5.1 kilometers away, offers an enriching experience in terms of geology, botany and fauna.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Biodiversity at its Maximum Expression<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Laguna del Marquesado is a natural paradise that houses exceptional biodiversity. Among the most notable plant species is Sparganium natans, classified as &quot;in danger of extinction&quot; and present only in this Natural Reserve on the Iberian Peninsula. Other aquatic plants such as Hippuris vulgaris and Potamogeton pectinatus find their home in this wetland, all highly sensitive to water pollution.<\/p>\n<p>The diversity of the place is further enriched by the presence of trees and shrubs such as maples, poplars, hazelnuts and willows on the banks of Arroyo del Soto, where conditions are ideal.
