The Piedra del Yunque Route is an exciting trail that begins in the charming town of Villalba de la Sierra, located 965 meters of altitude. As you progress along this route, you will be immersed in stunning natural beauty and changing landscapes. Join us on a tour of this exciting hike.
Departure in Villalba de la Sierra
Your trip begins in Villalba de la Sierra and follows the Camino de las Aguas, passing through Tablazo. This initial section will take you through landscapes dominated by pine and holm oak trees, offering you a glimpse of the local flora.
Gradual Promotion
After the first part of the tour, you will face a prolonged climb on a track which will take you to the head of the Barranco de Santa María. As you climb, the landscape becomes more diverse, with the forest gradually becoming denser. The path will take you to the creek bed, which is usually dry most of the year. To continue advancing, you will have to ford the stream before continuing up the Barranco de La Casilla. As you get deeper into shadier areas, you will notice that the vegetation becomes denser, with the presence of boxwood and juniper.

Finally, the climb ends and the path changes direction, taking you through a thick pine forest to reach the La Losilla Fountain. You will continue to the left of the fountain, overcoming a small slope, and you will reach the Tiná de la Nogueruela and, shortly after, a paved track that will take you to the Piedra Yunque, with an altitude of 1,369 meters. The panoramic view from this height is impressive. From there, you will continue along the paved track until you reach the telecommunications repeaters at the top of the hill.
A Descent with Stunning Views
At this point, you will take a path that begins a long descent. During this part of the walk, you will enjoy impressive views of the Campichuelo Region. Later, you will leave the road to take a path. Vegetation becomes sparser, with pines and oaks dotting a landscape dominated by loose stone slabs.
Return to Villalba de la Sierra
Finally, you will reach the CM-2105 highway, which you will not cross, but rather continue along a wider path that will appear shortly after. The descent will continue, and the pine forest will once again dominate the landscape. The path will become narrower and narrower until it becomes a path surrounded by lush vegetation. The curves of the road will accompany you during this section until you reach Hoya Redonda. At this point, you will permanently leave the road and you will encounter the Santa María Ravine again, which you will travel up along a narrow path that winds halfway down the slope until you reach its head. After crossing a small pine forest that surrounds the dry bed of the stream, you will ford the stream and take a path that will take you back to Villalba de la Sierra.
