If you are looking forward to an exciting adventure in the Serranía Alta de Cuenca, the Ruta de la Virgen de los Hoyos is the perfect choice. This trail will take you from El Pozuelo, a charming town in the Serranía Alta de Cuenca, to the Ermita de Nuestra Señora de los Hoyos. This linear route offers a unique experience in an environment surrounded by majestic pine forests and crossed by a stream of crystal-clear waters.
Natural Beauty at its Finest
You will begin your journey in El Pozuelo, located at an altitude of 1,240 metres above sea level. The surrounding area is home to natural treasures, including “La Presa”, an emblematic place where residents enjoy shady days under the leafy pines, and “La Risca”, an impressive waterfall which reaches its maximum splendor during the winter.
A Path of Discovery
The trail is linear and will take you from the centre of El Pozuelo to the Hermitage of Our Lady of Los Hoyos. The entire route is on a track, making it accessible to all adventurers. The path follows the traditional Virgen de los Hoyos trail. From the beautiful spot of Pino Seco, you will descend gently while the pines become denser around you.
Landscapes that will amaze you
As you continue, you will pass through Hoya del Lobo and reach a crossroads. Here, you will take the path to the right, descending and following the waters of a small seasonal channel that is located near the Ave María de la Virgen stream. On the left, you will be able to see a small shelter. Then, in the Hoya Encama area, the path will turn sharply to the west and you will begin to ascend to a nearby hill (959 metres), where you will find the Hermitage of Nuestra Señora de los Hoyos.
A Complete Experience
The main trail will take you back to El Pozuelo, following the same route you took to get to the hermitage. This walk will allow you to enjoy the natural beauty of the area and discover the richness of the Serranía Alta de Cuenca.
