Explore the Natural Beauty on the Hoz del Huécar Trail from Palomera
Get ready for an exciting journey that starts from Plaza de Palomera! We begin our trip by ascending a small cobblestone street with a short but steep slope that will take us to a panoramic view of the town.
Our path takes us northwest along a path that leads us to Paper Mills, a district located at the top of the cliffs that delimit the river's gorge, and which was known, as its name indicates, for its mills used for the manufacture of paper in times past. From here, you will enjoy impressive views of the river and its surroundings, which extend to the left in its narrow channel.
The Views from the Cruz Alta Viewpoint
Upon reaching the Cruz Alta viewpoint, you will be able to enjoy a spectacular panoramic view before continuing along the Rincón Pedregoso and Valdeladrones valleys before entering Molinos de Papel.

Return along the “Huerta de las Parras” Botanical Trail
To begin our return, we cross the river and follow a path to the left, heading east. Here we begin the Botanical Trail “Huerta de las Parras,” which coincides with the path. Along the route, you will find information about the vegetation of this shady area. As we advance with the river on our left, now inside the gorge, we cross Los Centenares and approach the riverbed in the most leafy area of the route. Here you can contemplate the typical species of these humid ecosystems, obtaining a new perspective of the Hoz del Huécar.
The Hermitage of the Virgin of Vadillo and Las Chorreras
If you wish, you can detour to visit the nearby Ermita de la Virgen del Vadillo, a modest construction located between the CU 914 highway and the Huécar River, before returning to the main trail.
In the area known as Las Chorreras, you can see a small waterfall that pours abundant water right at the edge of the road.
End of the Trail and Return to Palomera
Almost at the end of the trail, among fruitful orchards, we join a track that comes from Cerro Loboso and we continue forward. In it Zarzarihuela area, you will find some fountains gushing out of the stone walls on the right side of the path.
Finally, we cross the river and return to Palomera along the CU 914 highway, which takes us back to the town.
