Laguna del Marquesado, recognized as a Natural Reserve in June 2004, extends majestically over 372 hectares of land and is located in the municipality that bears its name. This wetland with exceptional characteristics is an integral part of the “Serranía de Cuenca” Special Conservation Area and is part of the Natura 2000 Network.

An Oasis in the Cuenca Mountains

Located in the Júcar River basin, in the heart of the Serranía de Cuenca, Laguna del Marquesado is a karst-type wetland, formed from the damming of the Arroyo del Soto. Its uniqueness lies in its unique morphology, with a maximum depth of 5.45 meters and fresh waters of the carbonate-calcium-magnesium type. Is about one of the few examples in Western Europe of a karst wetland formed by a travertine barrier or tuffaceous, a geological process similar to that of other notable natural parks, such as the Lagunas de Ruidera and the Laguna de Taravilla in the Alto Tajo Natural Park.
