The Interpretive Trail
To access this natural jewel, take the CM-2201 highway from Beteta to Masegosa and continue approximately 8 kilometers in the direction of Peralejos de las Truchas.
From Peralejos de las Truchas, follow the CM-2106 road towards Vega del Codorno, and at kilometer point 78, you will find a parking lot that marks the beginning of the interpretive trail.
The Formation of the Tooth
La Muela Pinilla y del Puntal is characterized by being a high, flat terrain delimited by pronounced escarpments, what is known as a "grinding wheel." Its formation is due to differential erosion processes, with more resistant rocks in the highest areas and softer and more erodible rocks in the lower strata.
The Gamonal Viewpoint
The interpretive trail will take you to the most representative places in the region, including the Gamonal Viewpoint, which offers panoramic views of the Belvalle estate and the Barranco del Horcajo in the Alto Tajo.
From here, you will also be able to appreciate the process of formation of a storm, which is the result of intense erosion at the base of the rocks, creating rock formations with a characteristic "mushroom" shape at the top.
Biodiversity in La Muela
Along the route, you will enter a lush Scots pine forest, accompanied by a border of thorny bushes such as barberry, guillomo, hawthorn, common juniper and others.
In the cracks, cavities and ledges of the limestone rock, you will find a rock community calcicola with notable species such as the snapdragon (Antirrhinum pulverulentum), the maidenhair (Asplenium fontanum), the doradilla (Ceterach officinarum), the stag's tongue (Asplenium scolopendrium) and five-on-a-branch (Potentilla caulescens).
A Berrea Scenario
La Muela Pinilla is a diverse habitat and, as it could not be otherwise, the setting for the Berrea. A natural spectacle that marks the deer mating season. The males' calls attract the attention of females and announce their presence to other rival deer.
