Valdemeca Mycological Trail: Exploring the Treasures of the Fuente de la Ardilla-Los Estepares

The Serranía de Cuenca is known for its mycological wealth, and this Valdemeca mycological trail gives you the opportunity to explore different habitats and, at the right time, observe a variety of mushroom species that thrive in these environments. Scots Pine Pine Forests

In this part of the route, you will enter a forest of Scots pines with orange trunks and small pine cones. This environment is conducive to finding the appreciated boletus, which is often camouflaged among the needles of the soil. You can also find amanitas, such as muscaria, and other varieties of mushrooms.

These flat areas used to be used for transhumant cattle grazing during the summers in the Serranía. Here, trees were removed to encourage grazing. In open meadows, it is common to find oyster mushrooms, wild button mushrooms and senderuelas.

Rodeno Pine Pine Forests

This type of forest is characterized by the dark reddish or almost black bark of the rodeno pines and the largest pineapples. The undergrowth is made up of cistus, heather and cantuesos.
