The Birth Path of the Guadiela River is not only a journey through the majestic nature of the Serranía Alta Cueva del Hierro and Masegosa.

The Celtiberians, masters of iron metallurgy, resisted the Roman conquest in search of this mineral around 197 BC, which led to mining exploitation in Cueva del Hierro and the creation of roads, the Via Secondary de la Calzada being one of them. the most relevant, connecting the cities of Cartagena and Zaragoza.

Your Adventure Begins in Cueva del Hierro
He Starting point of this exciting route is Cueva del Hierro, from where you will head east following the route of the GR 66. In this first section, you will walk along a wide track surrounded by pine trees and bushes. You will arrive at a crossroads where you will have the option to visit the Birth of the Guadiela River, which involves a short walk through the wetland that stretches out in front of you.

You will continue your walk along the main route, following the track until you reach the C-9211 road. At this point, you will pass by the mysterious Mosquito Cave. Then, you will walk to the left along the shoulder of the road heading south. Eventually, you will meet again with the GR 66 trail, which will take you to the town center of Masegosa.
Departure in Masegosa: A New Section
If you choose to start your expedition in Masegosa, you will follow the route of the GR 66. Initially, you will cross a clear area until you reach the C-9211 road. You will continue along the road for a short distance before entering the forest along a path.
The path will widen as you go, taking you through the pine forest to a junction. After this visit, you will continue along the main track heading west. The pine forest will gradually clear as you advance towards Cueva del Hierro, where you will meet the GR 66 again.
