Discover History and Nature on the Fuente de la Herrería Trail
The Fuente de la Herrería route combines rich ethnographic value with natural beauty. This trail follows the old cart path that was once vital for communication towards the Sierra and the town of Poyatos, recalling the traditional activities of resin collectors and wood transport.
A Journey Through Nature
Along the route, you will immerse yourself in Scots and black pine forests, with picturesque calares dotted with junipers, that characteristic tree that populates the heights of the Serranía. In addition, you will find maples and holly trees, which add variety to the flora.
A Serene Spring
The Prado de los Arroyos will surprise you with its serene spring. Here, water flows and is channeled towards the village, providing an oasis of rest and tranquility.
Portera Fountain: Fun and Picnic
The Portera Fountain is a popular place for fun and picnics. Here, you will enjoy recreational facilities and Picnic areas in the middle of a beautiful meadow full of oaks and gall oaks.
The Tour
The PR-CU 26 trail from the Herrería Fountain It starts on the road to Fresneda, continue along the plain towards the Poyatos path. On the way, you will pass through the Lomas del Herrero, you will reach the Fresneda de la Sierra area and you will ascend through the Rocha de la Templá. From there, you will go down to the Barranco de la Calera and you will reach the Fuente del Resquicio and the Tiná of the same name. Then, you will go up to the Sumidero, which is located in the municipality of Cuenca, from where you will get views panoramic views of the Escabas and Poyatos river valley.
The trail will continue along the Collado de Las Cubas, leaving behind the Poyatos path on the left, and will reach the Collado de la Cañada Laite before descending to the spring in the Los Arroyos meadow.
The Pozo del Miro Waterfall
Your tour will also take you to the Fuente de la Herrería and Los Corralejos before reaching the Pozo del Miro. Here, you will witness a beautiful waterfall formed by the Herrería stream.
Unforgettable landscapes
As you descend the Escalerón (at 1,270 metres above sea level), you can enjoy stunning panoramic views of the Dehesa Boyal and the fields of Campichuelo before reaching the Fuente de la Portera, which will welcome you to the Dehesa.
Back to Castillejo
The return to Castillejo will take you through the cultivation area of the plain and the Sarguilla, following a path that will lead you back to your starting point.
