The Hoz de Tragavivos Route takes you to explore the natural beauty of Cañizares, a charming town in the Serranía Alta Conquense. With its Church of the Apostle Santiago and the picturesque Castle district, Cañizares offers a unique experience. However, the most impressive thing awaits outside its walls, in the Sickle of the Tragavivos.

Cañizares is located at 1,062 meters above sea level and is known for its Church of the Apostle Santiago, a structure with strong walls and a single nave. Under the Peñón del Castillo, this neighborhood immerses you in an atmosphere of peace and tranquility, with serene streets that transport you back in time.

The Exploration Path
To discover the Hoz de Tragavivos, you can follow a low-difficulty trail that connects Cañizares with the surrounding areas. Most of the trail runs along a track, offering a comfortable walk. However, there is a final stretch that takes you along a narrow and poorly visible path due to lack of use, which adds a touch of adventure to your journey.
The trail begins in the town centre of Cañizares and continues northwards along the Las Loberas path, ascending around the right side of Los Cabezuelos. As you continue, you will be surrounded by pine trees and you will join the Las Loberas stream. You will descend along it until you reach the Tormo de la Muesca area, where the signposted route ends.
From this point, you will have a Stunning panoramic view from the cliffs of the Hoz de Tragavivos, while the stream cascades to join the Guadiela River.
A Scenic Return
Afterwards, you will return to the town following the same Las Loberas path, enjoying a wide view of the Vega de Cañizares as you approach the town centre. Along the way, you will notice that several streams and ravines pour their waters into the Vega, such as the Arroyo de la Raposilla, which carves the limestone cliffs to form a small gorge.
