Valdeolivas, A small treasure in the heart of La Alcarria in Cuenca, dazzles its visitors with its picturesque landscape dominated by olive groves, vineyards and cereal fields. The presence of the olive grove stands out, supported by the prestigious Designation of Origin of La Alcarria Oil. The medieval layout of the narrow, irregular streets of Valdeolivas will transport you back in time. Two evocative squares are interspersed in this network, where you can see examples of popular and stately architecture. Calle Mayor, which still has arcades on one side, displays traditional houses with delicate ironwork and colourful façades.
Along the route, you will find treasures such as the Arco de Molina, the Fuente de los Tres Caños, El Charcol and The Church of Our Lady of the Assumption, listed as a Site of Cultural Interest since 1982. Its interior houses the most notable Romanesque paintings in Castilla-La Mancha, including the famous Pantocrator and his Tetramorphs, dating from the late 13th century. You can also admire the ancient mills built with meticulous circular masonry at the end of the 18th century.

Halfway up the slope, take a path that leads to a track. From the hermitage of San Quirico and Santa Julita, you can see magnificent views of the Hoya del Infantado, a natural depression nestled between the Altomira and Bascuñana mountain ranges.
The route includes a forest path and, after 1,300 metres, you reach one of the most fascinating points: the “Piedra Molón”. Here, with spectacular views of the Bascuñana and El Rodenal mountain ranges, you will find the half-carved remains of a truncated cone-shaped grinding stone.
A Unique Natural Scenario
Continuing along the route, you walk on a "sea of stones" to the geodetic vertex of Llano de la Sierra, at 1,146 metres above sea level. Then, we descend along the “Camino de las Fuentecillas” to reach an old wash house called “El Charcol”.
On the way back to the town centre, you will pass by the fountain of the Tres Caños and the building of the old oil mill. The entrance to Valdeolivas is through the Arco de Molina, reminding us that this medieval town was once walled.
