The Gallo Fountain Trail
Let's start our journey from the village of Villar de Domingo Garcia, specifically we are heading to the magical environment of the Hermitage of Santa Ana, close to the enigmatic Rebillillo Caves, some of which are still used for the production and aging of regional wines. We begin our route along a wide track that, further on, turns northeast to enter the old Camino de la Sierra. Along this path, we will find dry crop fields and wasteland adorned with fragrant aromatic plants and shrubs that color the landscape.
At a strategic point, we find a new crossing, where we can choose to follow the variant of short tour, which will take us through a lush forest of pines and holm oaks. This dense forest surrounds us as we approach the head of a ravine that opens to our left and ends at the hill that divides Alto Gil from Alto de Almenara.
If we continue along the main route, we head towards the majestic Bascuñana Mountain Range. Once again, we change direction, this time towards the southeast, entering a plain that used to house vineyards, but which over time has narrowed until reaching the vicinity of the Fountain of the RoosterHere, walnut and other fruit trees used to tend the vineyards that now lie silent due to neglect.
As we move forward and the terrain becomes narrower, the imposing conglomerate walls loom over us, gradually giving way to the holm oak forest. On our way, we find vestiges of old cattle sheds who used to take advantage of natural shelters and cavities in the ground. The Fuente del Gallo, although somewhat distant from its original source, continues to provide its crystal-clear waters for the consumption of the population.
Hermitage of Saint Thomas
Our journey challenges us with a steep climb along a track surrounded by a lush pine forest as we approach Serranos Head. As we descend down the other side of the hill, the thickness of the forest begins to dissipate, and we finally reach the Hermitage of Saint ThomasNear the town, the dryland crop fields accompany us, and we leave aside the detour that would take us along the short-route variant.

Spring and autumn are the ideal seasons to take this route, since the weather is pleasant and the landscapes offer a variety of colors and wildlife. However, any time of year offers its own beauty.
2. Is it recommended to bring special equipment for this route?
It is recommended to bring comfortable walking shoes, water, sunscreen and, in winter, warm clothing. The route can be challenging, so it is important to be prepared and take precautions.
