Muela Pinilla and the Prop

This interpretive trail will take you to explore the impressive calcareous formation of the Muela Pinilla, which rises majestically at more than 1600 meters high, marking the natural divide between the Tagus and Júcar basins. This region is known for its karst landscapes and "haunted cities" and is called Tormagal here.

A Forest of Laricio Pines

The tour begins at the base of La Muela, where a wide ravine separates it from the Muela Hondonera. Here, you will be surrounded by a black pine forest with a sparse juniper undergrowth, which will accompany you throughout the walk. Only in some areas will you find rose bushes, dogwoods, and other shrubs.

Exploring the Tormagal

As you move to the left, you will be able to see the large towers that give their name to this area: the Tormagal. Here, you will begin to see arches, caves, raised blocks, castles and a wide range of karst formations that add to the beauty of the landscape.

A Walk Between Rock Alleys

As you follow the path, you will notice that you pass through the "alleys" that form between the limestone formations. Despite being marked with signposts, it doesn't seem like many people pass by here, making it a good place to spot animals if you walk quietly.

The Skull Stone: A Natural Wonder

You will continue down an "alley" that narrows, and at the end, you will reach the Skull Stone, a unique formation where erosion has created two round arches that resemble the eyes of a skull.

Dazzling Panoramic Views

Next, you will climb to the upper part of La Muela, where the hardest layer of rock has not been eroded, revealing formations only found in this area. From here, you can enjoy spectacular views towards the Alto Tajo and the Sierra Molina.

A Pleasant Descent

Finally, you will only have to descend, being very close to the starting point. The descent is almost straight, following the direction signs. You will pass through a last section of mountain slopes and continue descending through a forest of black pines and junipers. At the end of your tour, you will find another area of impressive towers that will bid you farewell to the natural environment, taking you back to the parking lot from where you began your walk.

This interpretive trail is an invitation to enter an amazing karst world and experience the unique beauty of Muela Pinilla and Tormagal. Be sure to enjoy and respect this natural environment so that future generations can also marvel at its greatness.
