Route that aims to preserve the old cattle trails of La Mesta

Discover History on the Cañada Real de Los Chorros Trail
The Cañada Real de Los Chorros Trail is a route that seeks to preserve the old cattle trails of La Mesta, using "cordes and jets" that are still maintained thanks to various livestock, agricultural and forestry activities. This journey aims to keep alive the memory of a fascinating section of the Cañada Real, with a space that It used to be a cattle resting place, the fountains of the milano or vilano, and a mestheno-style hermitage located several kilometers inside the route, traveling along historical paths that evoke events from the past.
Exploring the Trail
Our journey begins by walking along an old medieval road, the «Camino Real de las Zomas to Cañada del Hoyo». Along this route, a bridge with a Romanesque style arch known as the Molina Bridge is still preserved, which immerses us in the history of the region.
Continuing our journey, we follow the Prado Cerrado stream through an old cattle cordon that today functions as an agricultural road. This guides us to the resting place of the Fountains of Milan, which in its time belonged to the Mesta, a living reminder of the livestock practices of the past.

The Royal Cañada de los Chorros
From the Fuentes del Milano resting place, we continue to the right following the “Cañada Real de Andalucía or de los Chorros” (also known as the Serranos branch). Along this route, we experience the history and beauty of the Mesta roads, an ancient institution that played a fundamental role in Spain's livestock transhumance.
We will arrive at the junction with the Camino de la Virgen, where we will begin the return to the starting point, using the same path that crosses the hill formed between the Puntales hill and the Cabeza Quemada hill until we reach the Hoya de los Herreros.
Continuing along the Valhondo stream, with the majestic Castle of Good Success on the horizon, we will finally arrive back at our starting point in Cañada del Hoyo.
